Dive Into the Vibes

As Fast (Or Slow) As You Want It

Tape speed is a powerful tonal tool that can be used creatively to shape the energy and tonal balance of your track, and Virtual Tape Machines gives you two to play with. Try 15 inches per second (ips), for a rounder, thicker sound with some harmonic saturation, or switch to 30 ips for tighter bass with a cleaner overall polish.

Let’s Be Reel… Size Matters

Reel size alters tape’s physical characteristics, affecting frequency roll off, bass tightness, and transient attack. Virtual Tape Machines lets you choose between two machines: a 2-inch 16-track multitrack machine and a 1/2-inch stereo mastering deck. The multitrack is perfect for adding glue across your drums, guitars, and vocals, while the mastering deck delivers a more polished finish.

Gimme Even More Big, Fat, Bass

Virtual Tape Machines recreates how some real-world tape machines naturally reinforced the lows, giving you a subtle or dramatic lift where it’s needed. VTM lets you adjust the internal bass alignment to clean up muddiness and keep your low-end balanced. You can also adjust the Wow & Flutter, which mimics the subtle tuning and timing inconsistencies that come from tape playback.

“I use VTM on all my mixes. My real ATR 102 hasn’t been turned on since.”
